Communication
Email is the easiest way to reach us! Please check the CONTACT INFORMATION tab (under MORE) for our email addresses.
Also, your child will take home his/her Homework & Communication Folder everyday. Please check this folder each day for important notices, notes or completed work. It is very important that your child brings this back to school each day. This will help to create a routine and continue the communication between home and school. This is another way to communicate with us. For instance, if your child is doing something different from their normal schedule (going home with a friend, being picked up from by another family member, etc) please send us a note to let us know the change of plans. We will check this folder each morning.
Conferences
Conferences are scheduled four times during the year (Sept 16, November 13, March 19, May TBD). These conferences are planned to discuss your child’s progress and offer you ideas on how to help your child succeed. You are always welcome to schedule additional conferences by emailing, calling or writing a note us a note!
Homework
Weekly homework packets will be distributed on Tuesday. The homework packet will be collected the following Tuesday. Your child should complete 2-3 pages of homework per night plus their reading and reading logs.
Homework will require some parental involvement at this level. Your cooperation is essential in developing a positive homework habit. First and foremost, you can encourage your child by showing interest and demonstrating helpful attitudes toward homework.
Some additional suggestions for homework:
-Provide a noise-free, well-lit place to work
-Establish a regular “homework time” in the home and have a special place free from excessive noise.
-Help your child organize adequate time to complete activities neatly and carefully.
-Encourage your child to ask for help when he/she doesn’t understand something or is frustrated. Teachers, like parents, can help only if they know there is a need.
-Decide if it becomes too frustrating of a task to stop and take a break. Any work done under duress or frustration is not a positive or healthy learning experience.
-READ, READ, READ!!!! Students must be reading or being read to for at least 15-20 minutes every night- this makes a HUGE difference in your son or daughter’s academic progress!!! Please make sure there is plenty of appropriate reading material at home. In addition, reading logs must be done EVERY NIGHT!
Personal Items
Toys, electronics, cell phones and other personal valuables should not be brought to school. All other personal belongings (including coats, hats, gloves, sweaters) should be clearly labeled with your child’s name.
Uniforms
Students are required to wear the school uniform (sky blue top, navy bottoms) Monday thru Thursday. We’re an active class- sitting on carpets, playing at recess. As is such, we suggest girls wear shorts under their skirts and dresses!
Attendance
We cannot stress enough the importance of your child's attendance at school!!! What we do in class involves active participation. It is very important that your child attends everyday. However, we do realize that sickness, family emergencies, and doctor’s appointments (though we request that they be scheduled AFTER school) do occur. Whenever possible, your child’s schoolwork will be saved for him/her to complete upon their return to school.
Notes
Notes are required for the following reasons:
-Absences/illness
-Doctor appointments
-Different person picking student up from school
Birthdays
We love to celebrate birthdays! Please let us know in advance if you plan on bringing in a treat for your child to share with the class. On most days, the ideal time for the party would be at the end of the day (2:00-2:30).
